V.K.C. viert 80 jarig bestaan met muziek
Dit jaar, op 23 juni j.l., vierde het korps hun 80 jarig bestaan. Op uitnoding van het korps werd dit feest ondersteund met de Fanfare Korps Nationale Reserve en met de Surinaamse Militaire Kapel. Het programma begon op 19 juni met een optreden op het P.L. Brion plein in Willemstad. De volgende dag was het jaarlijks terugkerend mars door de stad van het VKC groter dan normaal door de participatie van bovengenoemde korpsen, het Politie korps, de S.K.S., de AntMil, het Douane korps, en de zuster korpsen VKB, VKE en VKS. Na de mars, werden 21 vrijwilligers bevorderd tot korporaal of sergeant na een 8 maanden durende opleiding. Tevens werden medailles voor 7½, 15 en 25 jaar trouwe dienst uitgereikt door de minister President Mevr. Emily de Jongh-Elhage. Later in de avond was er een receptie in Fort Amsterdam, waar het tachtig jaar geleden allemaal begon, voor alle vrijwilligers en gasten. De volgende dag traden het SMK, FKNR op in de buurt Marchena, waar op een ogenblik de SMK en FKNR samen optraden. V.K.C. Celebrates 80 years with Musical events
This year, to be exact June 23rd 2009, the Voluntary Corps of Curacao celebrates its 80th anniversary. The Fanfare Korps Nationale Reserve and the Suriname Militaire Kapel joined this celebration on invitation from the VKC.With different activities on the program, it started of on June 19th with a concert on the P.L. Brion plaza in the center of Willemstad.
The celebration continued Saturday 20th with the annual march through the streets of Willemstad, however this years’ march was larger than normal as the Dutch Military Reserves Marching band (FKNR), the Surinam Military Marching band (MKS), the Police, the SKS (Security Service), the Antillean Military and the Customs Officers together with the voluntary corps of Bonaire, Statia and St. Maarten joined in.
After the parade, 21 volunteers were promoted to Corporal or Sergeant after an eight month study. Loyal duty medals of 7½, 15 or 25 years were also handed out, with the help of our Prime Minister Mrs. Emily de Jongh-Elhage. Later that night a reception was held at Fort Amsterdam for all volunteers and guests. On Sunday June 21st, the local Police Harmony, the FKNR and the MKS entertained in Marchena in front of Marchena Hardware.
Wreaths for Colonel C. N. Winkel
On Tuesday June 23rd 2009, the VKC commemorated Colonel C.N. Winkel, initiator and founder of the VKC, by putting wreaths at his bust at the entrance of Fort Amsterdam.
The Commander of the VKC and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles, Colonel J. Bijsterbosch together with Major R. Sanchez of the Royal Dutch Navy, the Lt. Governor of the island of Curaçao and Dr. Carel Winkel and his sister, grandchildren of Col. C. N. Winkel, all commemorated this day with a wreath. Mrs. Lucina Winkel held a short speech afterwards, where she stated the importance of the VKC for the community and that she is sure that "my Grandfather would be proud of this organization!"

Het VKC heeft dinsdagmorgen 23 juni 2009 in het kader van de 80-jarige viering van het korps, de oprichter van het VKC geeerd.
Bij de buste van Kolonel Winkel werden kransen gelegd door Minister-president Emily de Jongh-Elhage, VKC-commandant Ronald de Jesus de Gezaghebber van Curaçao, mw. Lisa Dindial, Kolonel J. Bijsterbosch tesamen met majoor R. Sanchez namens de Comandant der Zeestrijdkrachten in het Caribische gebied en door de familie van wijlen ‘Cai’ Winkel.
De kranslegging vond plaats bij de buste van C.N. Winkel bij de ingang van Fort Amsterdam en in aanwezigheid van Zijne Excellentie Gouverneur Frits Goedgedrag, vice-premier Ersilia de Lannooy en gedeputeerde Zita Jesus-Leito en genodigden. Mevr. Lucina Winkel hield een korte toespraak waarin ze duidelijk liet blijken het belang van het korps voor het volk van Curaçao en de Nederlandse Antillen en dat "mijn grootvader trots zal zijn op deze organisatie..!"
Military Cemetery.
At the Military Cemetery at the Roodeweg, volunteer Makaai lies buried. Makaai died on duty during WW II as a volunteer in Aruba and was buried there. Family of Makaai asked for a transfer, to re-bury Makaai at the Military Cemetery which was honored. Second Lieutenant Makaai of the Voluntary Corps of Bonaire together with the Commander laid a wreath at his tumb last June 23rd.
Militaire Begraafplaats.
Op de Militaire Begraafplaats aan de Roodeweg ligt de vrijwilliger Makaai begraven. Makaai kwam te overlijden in dienst als VKC'er tijdens WO II op Aruba en was aldaar begraven. Op verzoek van de familie werd Makaai overgebracht van Aruba naar de Militaire begraafplaats op Curaçao. Tweede Luitenant Makaai van het korps van Bonaire tesamen met de commandant van het VKC legden een krans bij het graf. Tweede Luitenant Makaai is een neef van de gesneuvelde Makaai.
